Final Thoughts on Utilitarianism

While I can't bring myself to like utilitarianism, i do agree with Mill that intent is not the only thing that matters. Consequences do matter in some sense. You should always be accountable for the consequences of your actions, meaning you see what went wrong and apologize. However, when the consequences of something you did aren't what you intended, it does not reflect on your character or sense of morality.

    A nice distinction. Working this out in practice is of course rather difficult.

    I agree completely with this blog. The sentence where you stated that it does not reflect on ones character if the consequences of an action are not as they were intended. I feel that the only real judgement of character can come from what the initial intentions of ones actions were. That is how ones character should be judged.
